This year, BARACA (Bangladesh Rehabilitation and Assistance Center for Addicts) has been awarded for its exemplary work in the treatment and rehabilitation facility of drug addicts in Bangladesh. Through a formal program on 15 July, 2024 during the celebration of the ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking,’ BARACA received the 2nd prize in the 30-60 bed category from the Directorate of Narcotics Control, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The award was handed over to Brother Nirmal Francis Gomes CSC, the director of BARACA, by Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, Minister of Home Affairs, at the National Theater of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka.
Remarkably, BARACA has received this honor three years in a row, securing 1st place in 2023, 2nd place in 2022 & 2nd time this year out of 376 licensed Drug Treatment Centers across Bangladesh. In recognition of this achievement, BARACA expresses sincere gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh, the Department of Narcotics Control, and all current & former employees of BARACA. Hard work, talent and perseverance of BARACA Staffs have been instrumental in reaching the prestigious height. BARACA also dedicates this award to its recovery clients, their families, well-wishers, the Holycross Brothers community and also donor party- Caritas Bangladesh, Caritas Germany and Caritas Luxembourg for financial support and also international consultant, Dr. Efreem Milanese.
